Students of the Month

At the April 19th club meeting, the club was pleased to honor two outstanding students for the month of April. Ballard High School Principal Keven Wynkoop introduced the April Students of the Month:

  • Ellie McVickars – Ellie has been active in all areas of the performing arts, including band, choir and musicals. She is on the tennis team and has devoted over 240 hours to volunteering. She will major in English and is still deciding which university she will attend next year.

  • Max Levy – Max plays clarinet and is a drum major in the BHS band, featured in the May 17th Ballard parade. He's also captain of the varsity track team. Max plans to study Wild Fire Management at the University Of Idaho (which pleased U of I alum Joseph Grief).

March 2019

Students of the Month

At the March 19th club meeting, Ballard High School Principal Keven Wynkoop introduced the March Students of the Month: Annika A. and Peter F.



Annika A. is a senior, Chamber Orchestra Concert Mistress, and is involved in the music program.She plays fiddle and works part time at the Magnolia Library. She would like to study Environmental Studies in college.

Peter F. is a senior, catcher on the varsity baseball team, and works part time at Ray’s Boathouse. He was accepted to the University of Washington, but wants to continue his baseball career at Everett Community College. He wants to study astronomy in college.

February 2019

Students of the Month

 

At the February 26th club meeting, the February Students of the Month were honored. The two exemplary students were introduced by Principal Keven Wynkoop.

  • Madalera “Maddie” Musafie-Corwin:

Maddie participates in cheer (BHS just won the state championship), DECA, Link Crew, and is a Unified Cheer Coach. She works part time at the Marriott Hotel on the waterfront. She has applied to 12 colleges, and wants to major in hospitality.

  • Jon Marstall

Jon participates in tennis and swimming. Originally from Bakersfield, California, he has lived all over the country. He would like to attend the University of Washington. He volunteers on KBFG radio, helping with the broadcasts of high school basketball games.

January 2019

Students of the Month

At the January 15th club meeting, Carrie Burr, Assistant Principal of Ballard High School, introduced the January Students of the Month, Madeleine Clark and Noah Yee.

Madeleine blossomed at Ballard by being involved in Link Crew, club president of DECA, and is in Running Start at North Seattle College where she is taking Statistics. She is taking an AP course in Biology, Physics and American Government. Madeleine plans to study biology, bio-engineering and American government and law next year at University.

Noah Yee is taking four advanced placement classes at Ballard. Noah went to study in Japan for three months. Noah plans to attend University next year and study chemical engineering, minoring in material science and majoring in chemistry.

Congratulations to these two exceptional students!

December 2018

Students of the Month

At the December 11th club meeting, Principal Wynkoop of Ballard High School introduced two outstanding students as our December Students of the month: Michael Bryan and Meghan Sheldrate.

Michael Bryan is taking five AP classes, is a member of the Academy of Finance and DECA, volunteers at the Seattle Aquarium, and is a Link Crew leader at BHS.  He has applied at several several colleges.

Meghan Sheldrate participates in cross country, Earth Service Corps and Conservation Corps.  She is passionate about the environment, and volunteers at the Seattle Aquarium. She has applied at several colleges.

Congratulations to these exceptional students!

November 2018

Students of the Month

At the November 27th clubShe meeting, Principal Wynkoop introduced two outstanding students as our November Students of the month: Daniel Windus and Samantha Smith. These two fine students reminded all of us that the financial support we offer each year to Ballard High is money well-invested.  Whether it’s earning a high grade point average and singing in a men’s ensemble or lettering in 12 sports, these two are well-prepared for college and for giving back to their community.  Go Ballard!!!

Students of the Month

At the October 23rd club meeting, Principal Keven Wynkoop introduced the October Students of the Month:

  • Liam Bonds is an award-winning film-maker, was Robotic Club President when they won world championship, is an outdoor skills camp counselor, runs track and wants to study physics in college.
  • Allison Beaulieu plays trombone in the Ballard Jazz Band, got to go to the Essentially Ellington Festival in NYC and the Monterey Jazz Festival and is in the Girls Ellington Project in Seattle. She plans to study engineering at UW.

Students of the Month

At the September 25th club meeting, Ballard High School Principal Keven Wynkoop introduced two Student Body officers, Grace Johnson and Dina Pasha, as the September Students of the Month.  They discussed their activities while at BHS.

 

 


Alan Hovland reports that Ballard Rotary's tradition of honoring Students of the Month is 30 years long.  And, Principal Wynkoop responds, "I knew it was more than 24 years, because I was a Ballard Rotary Student of the Month in 1994.  I love that the club recognizes our students!"

5/28/2019: Derick Pasternak and Global Medicine The eminent physician Derick Pasternak, MD, MBA, FACP, FACPE, is a past director and current consultant for the Joint Commission International and will speak on evaluating international hospitals. The Joint Commission International (JCI) identifies, measures, and shares best practices in quality and patient safety with hospitals, government ministries, public health agencies, and other health care organizations, to achieve peak performance in patient care.
6/4/2019: Board Meeting Cancelled Due to scheduling conflicts the June board meeting is cancelled.
6/11/2019: Cathy Gibson, District Governor Nominee Cathy Gibson, Governor Nominee for District 5030 will host a Q&A, answering all questions Rotary, with the focus on District 5030.
6/18/2019: David Rice Come hear about the Seattle Seachordsmen Barbershop Chorus and their energizing music.
