LOCATIONZoomPlease join us in hearing from King County Councilmember Jorge L. Barón, who represents King County District 4. Before his election to the council in late 2024, Jorge served as the Executive Director of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) from 2008 until 2023, and as a staff attorney with the organization from 2006 to 2008.

Jorge is originally from Bogotá, Colombia, and immigrated to the United States at the age of thirteen. He graduated from Duke University and received his law degree from Yale Law School. In 2017, Seattle Magazine recognized Jorge as one of the most influential Seattleites of the year. Jorge has received numerous awards, including: the MLK Medal of Distinguished Service from the King County Council (2018); the Man of Integrity Recognition from the UW Women’s Center (2018); the Roberto Felipe Maestas Legacy Award from El Centro de la Raza (2017); the President’s Award from The Washington State Labor Council (2017), to name just a few.
