SUMMARY:April 8\, 2025: Tom Price of EcoSafi
DESCRIPTION:TIME: Noon\nLOCATION: Zoom \nPlease join us to hear from Tom Price\, CEO of EcoSafi\, an organization that is transforming cooking in the developing world by providing clean\, affordable biomass stoves that protect health and the environment. Many families\, even those living in urban settings with modern amenities\, still resort to lighting charcoal fires multiple times a day for cooking. Recognizing the need for a better alternative. EcoSafi builds cook stoves and biomass fuel pellets that aim to reduce deforestation\, improve in-home air quality and health outcomes\, and reduce emissions. They work in Kenya\, Zambia\, Malawi\, and Uganda. The challenge is that as of 2020\, 43% of families in low and middle-income countries worldwide cook food at home using stoves fueled by wood or coal. Tom has founded and led multiple startups in solar\, bio energy\, and carbon. Previously he worked as a freelance journalist covering the environment and human rights\, after almost a decade working for conservation groups in Washington\, DC.

SUMMARY:July 8th\, 2025: Ballard Rotary Leadership Transition\, Marilee Fuller on Rotary International Peace Convention
DESCRIPTION:TIME: Noon\nLOCATION: Leif Erickson Hall\, 2245 NW 57th St \nThe first club meeting of the Rotary year 2025-2026 is notable for several reasons. First is the change of location to the Leif Erickson Hall. We are unable to use Sunset Hill Community Hall because the facility is hosting two months of summer camp for kids. Alana has nimbly secured our use of the Leif Erickson Hall for July and August\, with her hopes that our club will want to switch locations permanently. So it is important that you all attend and check it out\, so that you can weigh in on any move. \nSecondly\, this meeting will also be our official transition meeting\, with outgoing president Stan Miner passing the gavel to incoming president Alana Morris. This is a celebratory occasion that everyone should want to attend. We toast Stan with many thanks for his excellent year of service as President. We will also toast Alana with gratitude that she is willing to serve as President in the coming year. It’s time to party!!! \nAnd third\, this meeting will also include a program provided by Marilee Fuller\, past Ballard Rotarian (and past president!) and currently a member of University District Rotary. Marilee will report on the Rotary 2025 Presidential Peace Conference that took place in February in Turkey. It should be highly informative and inspiring! \nPay for your lunch ahead of time: (Lunch Ticket for 1) \nhttps://swipesimple.com/links/lnk_8f18fd72 \nNOTE: There will be NO Zoom/Owl link for this meeting.
